The sun was out, and anytime that happens, especially after the long, extra cold winter we’ve had, I feel the need to be outside as much as possible. We took the train to the New York Botanical Garden this morning. I really just needed to be in the sunshine and fresh air.
Some of the first flowers are beginning to arrive. Snowdrops are blooming in the rock and azalea gardens, along with hellebore and crocus. It was windy which added a chill to the air, but I was just happy to be outdoors.
Even a simple walk along the wide gravel path through Thain Family Forest where I could smell the scent of leaves and earth was exactly what I needed to reset from the hectic work week an begin the weekend.

And just like that, spring has arrived. Daffodils, cherry blossoms, magnolias, suddenly the world is bursting with vibrant color, after what felt like an endless stretch of gray, cold winter.
There's something deeply comforting about the return of native plants; it always feels like greeting old friends who’ve been away for too long.
I spent the day at the New York Botanical Garden (one of my favorite places), and everything’s starting to wake up. Early blooms like trout lily, trillium, and Dutchman’s breeches are making their appearance. Wherever I’ve lived, native plants have always been my favorite to find.
The trees are just beginning to leaf out, and it’s all feeling hopeful and alive again. I’m ready for more light, more warmth, and more days like this.

I needed a little R&R today, so I headed over to Descanso Gardens which is one of my “go to” special places. The garden was in full spring bloom, and it looked exceptionally stunning! I’ve always said Descanso is a magical place, so I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

I had the day off on Friday so I headed out to Descanso Gardens to do some photography and catch the tail end of the tulip bloom. I haven’t been getting there nearly as much since we started hiking every weekend, but I did want to at least check out the spring bloom. Here are just a few photos from my trek around the gardens. Not nearly as many images as I took last year when we had the big super bloom, but still very pretty and always an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two.
