Mountain Top Arboretum, Tannersville, NY, Catskills, April 7, 2026

This was my first time visiting the Mountain Top Arboretum.  We were spending a few days in the Catskills, and it was right up the road from Hotel Mountain Brook where we were staying.  After checking in, we drove over to the arboretum, which sits at an elevation of 2,400 feet.

We walked through the East Meadow, where many of the trees are marked with blue discs identifying each species.  I took a few photos to reference later.  I really wanted to explore more, but the weather was unexpectedly cold with gusty winds, snow flurries, and yet the sun was shining all day.

We decided to head back to the hotel and enjoy the cabin, saving the arboretum for Thursday which would be the perfect way to spend a little time outside before heading back to the city.

When we returned on Thursday, we explored the Spruce Glen.  It was a quiet, peaceful walk through a lush spruce forest.  I left my camera behind this time, wanting to just enjoy walking with my husband and taking in the fresh mountain air before heading home.

I’ll definitely be back, especially to see it in the warmer months.
